This has to be one of the best, if not the best ever written account of the genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda.The storytelling in the book will captivate your mind and take you on an unforgettable journey. More important than the storytelling is the story itself: the journey of four young Tutsi children traversing a dark forest filled with wild animals... except that the wild animals are in fact humans “Hutus” with machetes and the dark forest is in fact their own “used to be safe” neighborhood. Towards the end of the journey, the children learn that their parents and many of their other siblings didn’t make it.The reader of this book is introduced to the complex nature of the genocide: For example, Mr. Habimana, leader of the killers who on one hand was responsible for shedding blood of Tutsis and on the other hand was an angel on the path of these 4 Tutsi children.The author, Kaka, is a friend of mine and neighbor of many years; and Rousseaux, Kaka’s little brother and one of the 4 kids in the story, is my high school friend. I am shocked and ashamed that all these years I was completely unaware of their story, but I’m also deeply encouraged by their general awesomeness and kindness despite the atrocities that befell them and their family. Now I am left wondering how many stories of my close friends I have yet to hear!I applaud Polie (Kaka’s sister) for her courage to clean their family’s remains and to give them the dignity they deserve, which also helped bring some closure. I couldn’t get over how she held her dad’s cranium for several minutes and I could just picture a stream of emotions that was going through her head. For one more time, a girl was holding her dad.I am thankful for having had the honor to read this incredible autobiography!I’m thankful for Kaka and his family for having had the courage to relive these dark moments in order to bring these memories back to life for all of us to read and to educate ourselves. I hope that many people will read your story and I pray you stay courageous in your lifelong healing journey.Since reading this book, I am following into Kaka’s footsteps and saying my daily prayer, asking for the strength to be good, to do good. We can all use this. Thanks Kaka, and I am sorry.

Great story. It’s hard to believe that humans can treat others like the Hutu’s treated the Tutsis. Once you marginalize and dehumanize a class of people atrocities like this will naturally follow. Think of the holocaust and how the Jews were dehumanized over the years leading up to the killing. This book is intense at times but worth reading. Thanks for telling this story.

This is the most incredible story of survival, love and tribute to family, and a reflection on forgiveness and healing.Please check out the book Angels on My path. It was written by my friend Jean Leonard Kagabo (Kaka), one of the most incredible people I have ever met. It is rare to come into contact with someone that is so positive, open, fun, enganging, reliable, and humble. I am truly lucky to have met him. I knew pieces of his story and that he had survived the genocide in Rawanda, but I had no idea how truly amazing his story was until I read this book. He survived the unthinkable to share his story with the world It is a story that needs to be heard.

'Angels on my path' is a poignant true story of Kaka(Leonard Kagabo), his experience of life in Africa and in particular, his experience of the Rwandan Genocide in the early 90s. Kaka chronicles life as a young boy growing up in a large family(with farm animals) and a country with meager infrastructure.His love for his family is evident in his fond recollection of childhood memories. He talks about having to walk 2-3 hours everyday to attend school. What follows, is a recollection of the horrific mass killing targeting his people (Tutsi), a minority in Rwanda. Kaka's path to safety is paved by 'Angels', or heroes who defy the chaotic and destructive forces driving the Genocide, to stand for what is right and just.If you think you understand Genocide, or if you wonder why people in certain countries seek lands foreign to them and leave their homes behind, this story could give you a lot of insight.As someone that knows Kaka personally(albeit for a short time), I feel that his friendly and personable demeanor despite all that life has thrown at him, is a testament to his values and to human perseverance in general. I cannot imagine how difficult it was to share this story. Thank you for doing so Kaka.

Knowing that the Catholic Church has survived 2018 years in spite of many bad leaders, including one of the original twelve, gives me comfort in the current crisis. This book reminds me that when we hold on to the teachings given by Christ, early church fathers, and our faithful current leaders, we will not be led astray. There always have been and always will be those leaders who wander away from what Christ taught.

Thank you brother Bennett for reminding me that Jesus himseld said of the Chutch, “... the gates of hell will not prevail.” It is encouraging to see what “bad shepherds” Holy Spirit inspired laity had to endure and overcome in the past. It gives me hope for the future of our bruised and battered Body of Christ.

It's about time a Catholic writer broke popular precedent and wrote openly about the bad popes and bishops that have been recurrent problems throughout Church history.We might well include the situation with this current pope, who seems to be exactly the pope we DON'T need right now. Going with the flow of the culture, he downplays the problem of sexual immorality and prioritizes concerns about global warming, pollution and capitalism, while the family collapses.This author's treatment of problems in the Church was too flippant and unserious for intelligent consideration of such an important subject. And because the book focuses on only bad shepherds, it leaves the reader with a feeling of disgust about the Church, religion in general, and about the ways God works in the world. Interspersing the text with more uplifting material would have provided some needed balance.Also, a broader theological question needs to be asked: why would God allow the Chair of Peter to be filled by such people? Yes, even Jesus had to deal with a Judas, but Judas was not in a position of absolute authority. And do we owe obedience to bad shepherds? Perhaps the Church should clarify a "conscience clause" that makes it clear that no Catholic need ever surrender his right to personal discernment where the authority of a church leader--even the pope-- is concerned. If there is such a clause, then the author of this book should have discussed it, but his flippant and sometimes even silly treatment of the subject matter of this book did not go deep enough to allow for such important discussions. A lost opportunity.

Wonderfully written! Very educational and inspirational to fight back against the evil that continues to attack OUR Church. It very simply reminds the reader of the Church's past and how WE the laity, the faithful, the Church's support network has always guided the Church of our fathers' back into the light and on steady, straight paths.

If you like history told as a if it is family history this is for you.Mr. Bennett takes cardinal historical events and deftly walks you through it regardless of your historical knowledge or religious affiliation.We are living in a time of historical and theological significance. Let's not repeat past mistakes. If you want to have an understanding of what is happening and what is at stake read this book.The authors writing style is at a level that is educational and meant to inform the reader. He doesn't wag his intellectual finger at you but engages the topic at a level that will have you wanting even more information. This is the second book of his that I have read, and have passed this particular one onto others to read. It is worth your time to inform yourself.

Rod Bennett has written parts of Church history in a very readable way, even including some humor. When he talks about the villain shepherds, he is not demeaning or nasty. Rather, he presents information and even explains some of the historical and cultural context that contributed to popes, bishops and priests going bad. He expresses compassion where that is called for. It seemed to me like a fair and accurate rendering of the history it presented.The book also clearly shows the wisdom of the Church and her power and authority, and the government and its power and authority, being separate. As Shakespeare told us plainly, "Power corrupts..." When the Church and politics were enmeshed with each other, power corrupted many in both realms!This book showed me that, not only has the Church weathered other storms -- it has weathered storms as severe, if not more severe, than the storm we are embroiled in now. The Holy Spirit -- the true head of the Catholic Church, does prevail and keeps even the gates of hell from destroying Christ's Church. He always has; He always will. And He very much uses the faithfulness of the lay people of the Church to do so.So my fellow lay people, I highly recommend this book for the encouragement it will give you to persevere and hold tightly to the true teachings of the Church during the current crisis we face. Our prayers and our insistence that the Church be purified and renewed in truth and justice will play an important part in that coming about, as it has in every other crisis the Church has faced in her 2,000 year history.

This is a great little hardcover book with beautiful pictures and tasty tropical drink recipes. I haven't made any of them, because I bought it to go in our beach house rental, but our guests have been using it and sending me pictures of their concoctions! It's been a big hit, I stand it up next to the blender on the counter. Even when I was just looking through it before I put it in the beach house, it made me think of the beach, the tropics, etc.

Lots of variety of drinks! Good book!

Has some great ideas and recipes for summer drinks. I would recommend this book. Kim Haasard does great work. I have all her books and use them all the time.

I don't know about you, but I was looking for a SIMPLE book to get recipes from for some summertime drinks. THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU unless you or your relative owns a Bar Business. You tell me........... do you have the following ingredients handy in home in your bar? If not, you'll have to find them because this is how this book reads: Vanilla, Orange, Citrus, Spiced, Demerara, Coconut , light Amber Body and "aged" Rums, Yellow Chartreuse, Cruzan Mango Rum & Blue Curaco. How about Demerara Syrup,. I know we have all have Fernet-Branca , Licor 43, Reposado Tequila, Hangar One Mandarin Blossom Vodka, Passion Fruit Syrup, Agave, Guava and Mango Nectars, Hennessy VS Cognac, Cointreau, Zacapa 23 Rum, Orange Curaco, Orgeat Syrup and last but FAR from least ..........ready..........St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur just waiting to be mixed up. Seriously??? Are you kidding me??? You MIGHT be able to find some of these if you live in a Big Metropolitan City..........but live outside Chicago, New York, LA, Miami in a small town with 1 liquor store within 25 miles.......... lots of luckI'm not about to spend a small fortune buying these expensive ingredients to use once in a blue moon. The author must be outside her mind.

Very good drinks.

Just this morning 6/17/2013 on Fox 10 here in AZ. I watched the author of this book prepare several punch recipes live on screen. So I quickly jotted down the title of her book and about 20 minutes ago I purchased it for my Kindle. I just now looked at it and was so disappointed since all it contains are 101 recipes for drinks that serve between 2 to 8. What she was showing us on TV was punch to serve 20 people. I know this may not sound like a huge deal because some of you would figure out how much of each ingredient you would need to triple or quad triple for a large quantity. I don't have time for that stuff nor do I want to hassle with it!! She made it sound like all her Punch recipes were in her book. What a farce!!! That is why I returned my Kindle copy.
