Alexa Donne is just reverential enough to the heart and spirit of Jane Eyre to delight this Bronte fan - but at the same time she's done a beautiful job expanding the story so that I was still on the edge of my seat.Stella, an engineer and amateur artist, is a brilliant Jane for a new era. She's got guts, brains, and drive - but an uncertain future. Hugo, the Captain of The Rochester, is delightfully broody and haunted by his past. Put them together, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. If you like Jane Eyre, space, or just good books in general - I highly recommend you grab this one!

Wow! This book is AMAZING! IfI could just make my review one sentence I would put- Buy this amazing book NOW! It's seriously that great!I honestly wasn't expecting to adore this book as much as I did. I didn't know much about it going into it either.I think my fascination with futuristic-space-shuttle-living started when I was a kid watching Xenon, Girl of the 21st Century on Disney Channel. And Brightly Burning made me think of that movie but more than any other, it reminded me of Wall-E.One of the things that I loved the most about this book was the romance and I'm usually not a Romance fan. I prefer books that focus more on world-building and plot, characterization. But this book had that AND a great romance! It wasn't an insta-love romance either, which I actually don't mind if done right. It was slow and sweet. I loved the mystery the story was built around as well. A lot of the time I'm able to figure out at the very least the general direction of a story but this one took me completely by surprise and I loved it! It wasn't predictable for me at all. I thought I knew what was going on but I was so wrong! And I loved trying to figure it out along the way.I loved the entire world in this one. The way everything worked. All of it. It was new and exciting. I loved the characters- Stella and Hugo are one of my new favorite ships now. I can't rave about this one enough and I highly recommend it!

I fell into this book head over heels, it swept me up and I couldn't put it down until I finished it!I loved all the book references to not only the Bronte sisters but to Jane Austen and even Harry Potter! Plus so many many others. This story makes one hope that even in the future some of these amazing stories can stand the test of time ,,, even if their pages are faded and the books are falling to pieces. So onto the story -The world building was great, even though they live on space ships which would make one think it'd be a limited world, it's not. The reader gets to explore multiple ships and even see a glimpse of why humans are orbiting earth in the first place ...The romance, it's a retelling of Jane Eyre so if you're familiar with that novel then you have a very good idea of whats's to come .... but it doesn't follow the script of Jane Eyre to a "T" so prepare yourself for some surprises!Lastly, the characters. They were fleshed out and I didn't feel like anyone was just a stand in or only 2D. Great characters and amazing growth!Happy Reading!

Already on my re-read list...This book felt like if Jane Austen wrote YA today. The writing style and voice had a sophisticated feel, but because it was first person perspective and fast paced, it kept my attention and I still really connected with the character.Often in stories set in space there's only one setting, the ship. But the author was able to explore multiple settings in this story making it feel like a real world. The way the ships ran, the jobs, the clothes, food, technology, etc. all made logical sense. The A.I. made me laugh because it's what I imagine the Amazon Echo to be like in a few years. Basically, the setting was an additional character in this story. There were only a few things I did not enjoy, but I want to be clear I still highly recommend this book. The first thing was the fake cursing. It always bugs me when stories make up fake curse words. The next thing was the romance. It felt a tiny bit instalove-ish, even though the characters did connect on a deep level that made sense and one saved the other from a life threatening event. I think because the stakes were so high in the end it felt like would this character really put everything on the line for someone she just met not too recently ago? I think the answer is she would, but while I was reading I felt myself hesitating to believe it. Lastly, everyone kept telling the MC she was bold and it felt condescending which I think the character kind of did say wtf stop calling me that, but still I was like stoppppp every time one of the character said it.Overall I think the voice, setting, plot twists, and main character all made it an amazing story. It is one that I will definitely revisit in the future. And I can't wait for this author's next book to come out (Jane Austen + The Bachelor + Space...um yes please!)

CATALOGING FOR SCHOOL LIBRARIANS

Review

This book should be in every school library, read by every person who manages the local catalog, and kept nearby as a handy reference. (School Library Connection)Cataloging for School Librarians is a great example of a school library cataloging textbook. The references Kelsey makes to historical figures who have contributed to the development of bibliographic documentation and classification (including Melville Dewey and Minnie Sears) are nice additions that help provide context to the reasons why we use the Dewey Decimal Classification and Sears List of Subject Headings today. (Technicalities)This highly comprehensive volume covers the subject in great depth, illustrating the encyclopedic knowledge of the author. Marie Kelsey is a well-recognized authority in this field and has placed much of her knowledge within the covers of this book. . . .This volume surely deserves a place in library training departments and possibly some larger Schools Library Services with a training and advisory role. (The School Librarian)Cataloging for School Librarians is a very practical guide, written in a straight-forward, conversational tone, for real-world application. The comparisons of AACR2 with RDA are invaluable. This book provides the necessary practical learning, but also challenges readers to think about the reasons behind the decisions with the ‘Test your critical thinking’ questions. Reminding me of the tag line, ‘Thinking like a historian,’ which is common in school social studies instruction, here, the challenge is ‘Thinking like a cataloger!’ The variety of practice questions at the ends of different chapters keeps the learning from becoming ‘same-old, same-old’ as the reader works through the text. (JoAnne Tiedemann, District Cataloging Librarian/Media Specialist, Madison Metropolitan School District, Wisconsin)Cataloging for School Librarians presents the theory and practice of cataloging and classification to students and practitioners needing a clear sequential process to help them overcome cataloging anxiety. With the instructions in this book, the new cataloger will become proficient at creating bibliographic records that meet current national standards and at making library materials accessible to students and faculty. It covers AACR2, RDA, FRBR, Sears, and the Dewey Decimal Classification and presents numerous examples of how to catalog books, nonprint, and electronic library materials using the MARC format. To reinforce learning, each chapter concludes with a review quiz and a critical-thinking question. Cataloging for School Librarians includes a glossary and an index.

From the Author

Getting the job done is exactly what my goal for this book was when I wrote it. For fifteen years I taught cataloging in the classroom and to distance students studying to be school librarians. Never finding an adequate textbook, I had to write each lesson myself in order to convey basic concepts in an organized fashion. Those lessons have been transformed into this book. It covers both theory (why) and practice (how) of all steps in cataloging both print and non-print materials typically found in a school library. If you have been looking for a textbook that enlightens rather than baffles your students, this book could well be the answer. I know these lessons work because I have used them repeatedly. Please contact the publisher for a review copy soon! Best of luck in teaching your next cataloging course! Marie Kelsey, Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Very detailed read. I had to have this for one of my college classes.

Great for what it needs to do, but it could use some updating.

arrived as promised. will do business again

It has a lot of good info, but it also often points out things that a school librarian doesn't need to know. I would rather it skip these topics or just share the information - don't just say I won't need to know this.

I purchased the Kindle version. There are no page numbers given. This is extremely frustrating when the professor asks you to complete the assignment on page 43 and I have to go and manually count pages.

Yes, I had to buy this for a not so fun class. However, my complaint is that there are many MISTAKES! Like page 111, Table 8.2 should have $a before Myers, Walter Dean and before The blues of Flats Brown, for example. The book is about cataloging, which is all about DETAILS! So get the DETAILS right!

Got the book in great condition!

Like any other college textbook... Nothing to jump up and shout about, but got the job done
