So I stink at visualization and taking neuroanatomy has been a lesson in humility. I've tried websites and at least four other books to help my brain do a little better because I pretty much expect A's of myself. This book was the first one to REALLY make things stick and simple enough that I could build on. I showed it to a classmate and she loved it enough to buy a copy for herself. It's not going to fill in all the gory details, but this will get you a great start and break it down into terms easy enough for a layperson.

One of the most helpful tools for medical students during neuroscience modules. The DVD that comes with it has an amazing program that maps all the tracts, brain areas and lesions. You can learn and test yourself pretty easily. Highly recommended.

Was studying for my SCRN exam and struggling with the anatomy part. This book saved me! I read the whole thing in a day and felt like I FINALLY understood everything!

This is the granddaddy of the MRS books, written by the series originator, Dr. Goldberg. I got the earliest edition of this book in 1974, and learned from his explanations and the drawings. Now I'm back in college in the new century, and here he is still, and with an interactive CD to boot. Dr. Goldberg, thank you for your clarifying explanations and your influence on my career!

l learned Neuroanatomy with this book and anytime I feel like I need to brush up on the basics, I re-read this book and it's great. It's a fun read and makes learning neuroanatomy way more fun and accessible than your textbook. Haven't used the interactive CD because their are apps with the same tools, but what a great addition.

I shared this book with a colleague and she informed me that many students have purchased thisbook and it has become very popular at the university. It should be used as a text book for undergrads.

About the Author

Jacquelyn C. Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a professor and the Anna D. Wolf Chair at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She is a national leader in research and advocacy in the field of domestic violence, or intimate partner violence (IPV). She has authored or coauthored more than 250 publications and seven books on violence, its health outcomes, and interventions for survivors. Her studies have paved the way for a growing body of interdisciplinary investigations by researchers in the disciplines of nursing, medicine, social work, and public health. Her expertise is frequently sought by national and international policy makers who are exploring IPV and its health effects on families and communities. As a nurse educator and mentor, Dr. Campbell leads by example in inspiring new generations of nurse researchers. Her BSN, MSN, and PhD are from Duke University, Wright State University, and the University of Rochester, respectively. She teaches an undergraduate and MSN elective in family violence as well as in the PhD program, and is the national program director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars Program. Dr. Campbell led a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded (T32) fellowship that provided funding for pre- and postdoctoral fellows in violence research for 15 years. Elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM; now the National Academy of Medicine—NAM) in 2000, Dr. Campbell was also the IOM/American Academy of Nursing/American Nurses Foundation senior scholar-in-residence and was founding cochair of the IOM/NAM Forum on Global Violence Prevention. Other honors include the Pathfinder Distinguished Researcher by the Friends of the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Nursing Research, the American Society of Criminology Vollmer Award, and the Sigma Theta Tau Episteme Award; Dr. Campbell is one of the “20 for 20” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Leaders in Violence and Injury Prevention and one of the inaugural 17 Gilman Scholars at Johns Hopkins University. She is on the board of directors for Futures Without Violence, is an active member of the Johns Hopkins Women’s Health Research Group, and has served on the boards of the House of Ruth Battered Women’s Shelter and four other shelters. She was also a member of the congressionally appointed U.S. Department of Defense Task Force on Domestic Violence.

There have been many histories of early Australia. Some, like Hughes' Fatal Shore, emphasise blood and the lash in convict discipline. Others concentrate on the actions of officials, showing the march of civilisation across a new land.This book is of an entirely new kind. It is interdisciplinary and multi-sourced. The author relies on drawings, paintings and visits to the landscapes, as well as the usual official and unofficial written sources. No matter how well read in the subject of early Sydney, every reader will find something new here.This is history from below as well as from above. Aborigines play much more of a role than mere background to the "real" story, that of convicts, officials and free settlers. The well-known stories of the war on the Cumberland plain are told, but so are stories about the interactions of Aborigines and the new arrivals, of the intermixing of their work and languages.There is nothing one-dimensional about this book: it lashes Fatal Shore for its author's falling for propaganda of the period, but Karskens does not deny the brutality sometimes evident in the British system of discipline. It is books like this which are the best advertisement for the slow reading movement.

Grace Karskens has done an amazing amount of research, going back to original documents and bringing a new perspective to many of the traditional, and oft repeated, rumours about the eary history of NSW. It is a must-read for anyone truely interested in early Australian history and the things that have shaped the current thinking in Aus. Although it weighs a lot, this book is hard to put down!

This book demonstrates the quality of Ms Karskens research as well as her skills at gently explaining in her narrative about 'The Colony'.
