About the Author

Greg has been climbing since 1994, and he can tell you every move on every route heÂ’s done, draw a topo from memory, give you his opinion on the rating of any pitch, repeat anything written in any guidebook, and tell you about the weather that day. He is Director of the American Safe Climbing Association. Between March 2001 and November 2002, Greg spearheaded the replacement of 482 bolts in Red Rocks canyons, including most of the long routes in this guidebook. He and other ASCA volunteers work long and hard to restore deteriorating bolts. Greg lives in Bishop, Yosemite, Tuolumne, Joshua Tree, and Red Rocks and develops SuperTopos for these areas.

Its a good book if you're trad climbing, it has the majority of the routes in it. If you really want to know all the routes and have a ton of information, there are better guide books out there for Red Rocks.

I've got every Red Rocks guide ever published, which is about 10 books, including a really old one published in Rock and Ice around 1982. This guide is not comprehensive but contains a good selection of classic long routes. One thing I enjoyed was the historical information on each route. For example, Triassic Sands has a section on the history of this climb that can't be found anywhere else.However, if you just want to get up these routes you may think all this history is unnecessary. Red Rocks is a difficult area for one guide book as there are such a wide variety of climbs, from single pitch sport routes to multi-pitch sport routes to full day trad affairs. This book does seem to emphasize the latter and if you are more into sport climbing you are probably better off buying one of the comprehensive guides.The photos in this book are superb. The online version, in particular, has some really good shots. I guess they reproduce better on a monitor than on paper.

To all the negative reviewers who complain about route selection: Supertopo guides have *never* been about having a comprehensive route listing. Instead, they are meant to give very detailed route descriptions, which this guide does in spades. I do agree it could use a few more photographs to make it easier to find the start for the various routes. Otherwise, it has never led me astray.

Compared to more recent publications, especially Red Rocks, a Climber's Guide, this book is next to useless. It's out-of-date and access descriptions are minimal causing much confusion and lost time. Getting to the routes quickly is important if you want to climb in the shade.Some of the best areas are not even mentioned. Photos are small and limited. Route descriptions themselves are good as are the line drawings of the routes, but overall coverage is limited.

While the appearence of this guide is attractive and the information accurate it fails by being too selective in the routes it describes.If you're headed to Red Rocks, check out Red Rocks: A Climber's Guide by Jerry Handren and Southern Nevada Bouldering Southern Nevada Bouldering by Tom Moulin. Both have high artistic values and are comprehensive.

This the most useless climbing guide I have ever seen.There are 3 guidebooks available for Red Rocks. The best one one is the new eddition of Mountaineers guide edited by Roxanne Brock, which is a very comrehensive, and gives good route descriptions pitch by pitch. It is similar to 'Falcon' guide; in fact it is a copy of it with much improved topos and graphics. It is also somewhat better organized then 'Falcon' guide and provides stellar guide for each route; very helpful. I definitely recommend it.The only good thing about supertopo guide are actually topos but unfortunately the number of routes described in this book is very limited. I can only guess that the author included only routes he has done, otherwise I cannot understandthe reason of producing the guidebook to a fenomenal climbing area including only 10% routes or so.Second problem with the book is a lack of detailed route descriptions; instead the author decided to suggest strategy of doing the route consisting of a statement such as that the route is very popular and you should start early to be first in line to avoid waiting in the que; I guess this is really difficult to figure out yourself.Third problem with the book is the lack of directions on how to get to the route. OK after few days and after talking to other climbers, who have climbed there for few days, you can get a good orientation but if you don't have anyone to ask for directions, you cannot work-out from this book.The book looks impressive if you never climbed in Red Rocks, but if you did, it is absolutely useless, unless you really want to limit yourself to a small number of routes described in the book.So do yourself a favor and don't waste your money for this particular book; go for Mountaineers guide, it is very good and useful. Besides it is cheaper. I bought this book because it was offered in the electronic form and I could print it out and reap easily pages with topos for the route.And go climbing in Red Rocks, it is really a stellar climbing area.

An ok book. Found one helpful hint. A diet using pellets is not a good plan. I've had two small animal or exotic pet vets tell me greens and Timothy hay only! My rabbits do just fine without those pellets.

Very short on details. Spent way more time talking about the different breed of rabbits aimed at breeders and people show want to show rabbits. Yuck even talks about which rabbits are best for fur coats and meat. If you buy this book to find out about having a rabbit as a pet you probably really don't want to read about the poor rabbits that end up as coats and food. Find a better book about rabbits as pets.

I wish I had found this book back when I first bought a pet rabbit but am SO GLAD I FOUND THIS BOOK. A lot of the other pet rabbit books I’ve ready have been way to simplistic or super-technical but this one offers lots of facts and info. that every bunny parent should know. I read it from start to finish right after I bought it and feel totally comfortable now that I know how to care for my pet rabbit.I also really liked the section on recommended rabbit breeds and the section on litter box training. I have a friend that needs to read the section on “What to do if your rabbit bites” so will be buying a copy of this for her too.This book really helped me to understand my rabbit better and will be a permanent book in my rabbit-knowledge library. It was easy and fun to read, I’ll be looking up the other books by this author!

We have a dwarf Rabbit that has a personality like a person. I recently decided maybe we should research how to take better care of it. Of course it has the best of everything and has even been asking for the new I phone 6. I learned that we immediately need to clip its toenails (Looking forward to that) and why it stomps every time we put it in the hutch for the night. Also, we have been moving it around too much as well as moving the litter box around too much. Now a word from the Rabbit...Thank you Sarah for making my owners much better owners. Maybe now we can sit by the fireplace and I can learn to purr instead of fearing I will soon be dropped in the fire. Did I mention we learned how to hold, carry and handle the animal as well?

I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter for her birthday. I wanted her to read about all the responsibly that comes with a pet rabbit before we bought her one. She and I both loved reading this book. It is very inquisitive and easy to read.I found answers to all my questions and concerns.We did get a floppy ear rabbit name Pudding. ;)

I really liked how basic the information was and how easy it was to learn EVERYTHING about caring for your rabbit and to make sure it lives happily, and healthy.One part in the book I noticed was that it said you could have a cage with a wire bottom which is not true. Cages with wire bottoms with give your rabbit sore hocks (like blisters all over your foot). How would you like to walk around with your foot covered with blisters on a HARD surface? It wouldn't feel good so that SHOULD NOT EVER be recommended.This book is very short (like 100-120 pages on Kindle) and only took me an hour to read and told you everything about rabbits and just told you the facts and didn't give you like 5 pages of details on how to feed your rabbit which I liked, it said the facts and gave you helpful tips but didn't spout nonsense that everyone would just skip over.I got this book for $5.44 on Kindle and it was definitely worth it and I would totally recommend this book to others seeking basic facts about everything rabbit.

Sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it ?Paul Hawken goes on exploring the history of civil disobedience, and shows how NGOs have proliferated in our time. Here he expects possibilities producing transformations in societies, which could have more power when acting in a coordinated way. The author didn't stop just thinking this. He originated a new website, "wiserearth", which is a platform offered to all NGO's and concerned citizens, at a global scale, to debate and to coordinate their actions, following the principle : "Think globally and act locally". At this moment in history, this is very important, since never before humanity faced a global threat so huge like global warming. What makes things even worse is that in the world we're living in today we have very little left of democracy (read Bagdikian's The New Media Monopoly if you're in doubt). Governments are corporate owned, and will never push for the real changes we need. At best, they will make some minor readjustments without real impact, while we should fully head for sustainable production and consumption. Now, when a movement of committed NGO's and concerned citizens, people like you and me, who are aware of the consequences of our actions, act together, in coordination, then maybe, we could recuperate our governments, so that they will put the people and their future in the first place again, like it was supposed to be, instead of the profits of the big corporations. Therefore, we should change our individual consumption, so that the "market" - the only thing governments and corporations really believe in - will be obliged to adjust.We can do a lot to reduce our individual dependence on fossil fuels in order to have some future left for our children. We can heat our house through intelligent design, following the principles of the passive solar house. We can boycott all gasoline-driven cars on the market today, including hybrid ones, and purchase only electric vehicles, which will be launched to the market next year (2010), with the best proposal so far Fiat's Phylla, which has solar panels incorporated in the car's roof. We should fly less, and we should eat less meat or no meat at all. We should buy organics. Those are all little things we can already do. At home. Don't wait till tomorrow. Do it now. It's the only way to guarantee a future for the next generations. And let's be serious : this will not "bring down American economy, eliminate growth and jobs, cost too much money, and lower the standard of living". What it will obtain is transforming the economy, supporting the most creative manufacturers, and supporting local organic farmers, which will generate new jobs. Transforming your home into a solar house represents a somewhat bigger initial investment than a "normal" house, but you will benefit in the long run from lower (or no) operational costs for heating your house. The same applies for electric vehicles, which don't need gasoline and are cheaper in maintenance. There will be no lowering of the standard of living, just a structural change towards an economy without oil. That's why the current big corporations - with Big Oil as their leader - will never accept those ideas, since they prefer making profits, even if this means we're all heading for collapse.

In the vein of Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Eliza Mirk has an online alter ego where she is known as LadyConstellation, the creator of one of the most popular webcomics called Monstrous Sea. Just like Cath, Eliza pours her heart into what she is passionate about. Eliza feels more comfortable talking to her online friends since in real life people think she is weird.A new guy named Wallace moves to town during senior year and it's fate that he is also a huge Monstrous Sea fan. Eliza debates whether to let him know that she is the creator of the webcomic but decides to ride it out that she is just a huge fan of the series and likes to create fan art.One day Eliza's world starts crashing down when her identity of the creator of Monstrous Sea gets revealed. Eliza starts to have panic attacks and her anxiety increases. She even starts seeing a therapist. Francesca Zappia even touches upon grief through Wallace and what happened to his biological father. Warning, there are slight mentions of suicide and possible depression for those who are sensitive to those topics.Francesca Zappia delves into two different types of families. The structure of each family shapes Eliza and Wallace differently. We have Eliza's family with a mom, dad, two brothers and her dog. On the other hand, we have Wallace's family where he lives with two step parents, a half sister and a step sister. It's good for readers to know that there are different varieties of families out there and there is no such thing as the perfect family. Everyone has their share of joy and distress.Throughout the novel, Zappia includes illustrations from Eliza's webcomics which acts as a visual aid to show readers what Eliza is currently working on. Zappia also includes some of the conversation she has through an online forum. They add a more personal touch to the novel.The interaction between Eliza and Wallace is perfect. There is no instalove and their friendship grows before their love blooms. Zappia breaks down stereotypes. Wallace who enjoys football can also love writing and reading webcomics. Even one of Eliza's brothers likes theatre and choir despite the love for sports and video games. Zappia reminds readers that we cannot judge people by their looks. There is more than meets the eye. I swear I’ve never grinned at a winky face so hard in my life! I felt like I was flashing back to my teenage years.By the end of the book, Zappia shows us -- through Eliza -- how to face your fears and celebrate your story. If you can’t find it – create it! And above all, fight your monsters – don’t get eaten.

This book, written by Eric Metaxas, is a wonderful celebration of the lives of seven men who each left an indelible mark on the world, from George Washington and William Wilberforce to Jackie Robinson and Pope John Paul II.By Metaxas' own admission, the seven men whom he chose to include in this book was done in a subjective manner, and was based on his own opinions of those men whose lives he considers to be instructive for learning how to live out our own lives - including his close friend, Chuck Colson. And yet, when one examines the lives of each man who is included in this book, one is left with the impression that Metaxas has chosen well.There are two common threads that run through the lives of each man in this book: Each man exhibited courage through a sacrificial choice that many others would find difficult if not impossible to make themselves; and each man lived a Christian faith that gave each of them the strength to make the sacrifices each one made.I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn from the good examples of other men how they, too, can live lives of courage and significance.

Maybe at least 1-star for each man, and then some! The world needs heroes and Metaxas gives us a bunch here to consider. The world needs mentors and Metaxas takes on the role second-handedly by presenting these men as mentors we can emulate. I was surprised by his presentation on each of these men, beginning with George Washington. These were people I thought I knew. Metaxas narrated (in audiobook format) exciting unknown facts about each of them by which he built up their character beyond that which might have been know by most people about them.This is the first time I have read anything by the author, although I've owned his book Miracles: What They Are, Why They Happen, and How They Can Change Your Life, but it's been just sitting there. But, Seven Men: And the Secret of Their Greatness (Audio CD) was sitting there too until I began reading it. So, there's hope! I was so impressed by this book that I just bought two of his other books: Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery and Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy about two of the seven men he spoke about, plus this DVD: Amazing Grace. Metaxas is an impressive individual.

I've written about Metaxas' Amazing Grace Wilberforce tour de force previously at kruzoo blogspot.Metaxas hits his literary stride in 7 Men, offering a very readable and concise portrait of 7 key figures in the Christian faith (and the global stage). One gets the sense that in these brief vignettes, Metaxas is more in his element than in the detailed minutiae of Bonhoeffer and Wilberforce. I base this analysis solely on the episodes of his excellent radio show to which I've started listening. Excellent book showcasing some great examples of human beings (sure they're all men, but the author's also written a book "Seven Women" with a free preview at the back of this one). I had been interested a while back in the author's biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but wasn't ready to read a whole book on him (I must be real lazy!). So when I saw this book, with a smaller version of Bonheoeffer's life, as well as other great men, I went for it!All remarkable stories about remarkable lives, people who had dedicated themselves to living out God's call on them to serve and shape the people around them. The one that stood out the most to me was William Wilberforce, who had a profound impact not only in making slavery illegal in England, but also changing the public's attitude toward slavery and poverty in general. It made me realize again how we often err in assuming people in other places and times share our attitudes and morality. The English people of Wilberforce's era (late 1700's) did not have a high regard for human life and dignity, and felt that poor people were poor because of God's judgment and therefore did not deserve help or respect. In general, manners and dignity were non-existent, alcoholism was rampant, prostitution and child labor was widespread. And somehow Wilberforce patiently turned the culture around. Changing laws on the slave trade was only possible after he had done that. How did one man do that?In addition to Bonhoeffer and Wilberforce, the book includes min-bios on George Washington, Eric Liddell, Jackie Robinson, Pop John Paul II, and Charles Colson.I definitely recommend this book if you want some examples of leading truly outstanding lives.
