My grandchildren didn't say anything positive or negative about this book. It seemed good, but couldn't give it five stars.
This is a great book to use for readers who need an easier-to-read book at the 3rd grade level. It is a story with characters they can relate to and can be used in conjunction with the Iditarod Race as it occurs in Alaska. I enjoyed connecting it to common core standards for reading comprehension skills and following story development.
This was a great book. Has so much excitement in it. the book is really about being different. Silver was different And so was Rachel
Most early chapter books, in an effort to keep things simple and easy to read, may feel too condescending to the reluctant or lower-skilled reader. I must applaud Whelan for giving us a story that respects the reader with an interesting tale that won't overtax a growing reader. The story, set in Alaska, is told from the point of view of a young girl whose father runs the Rondy and Iditarod. Silver is the runt of a litter of sled dogs that she raises with dreams of running the Iditarod herself. I was quite impressed with this book and would recommend it to youngsters already reading chapter books, but also as a HI-LO (high interest, low ability) for older kids. Those are not easy to find.
A nine year old girl lives in Alaska and her dad is a dog racer his lead dog is going to have pups so he can't use her in the big race after Rachel watched one of the smaller race's her dad was in she decided that she wanted one of the lead dogs pups so when the lead dog had pups she got the runt then she began toFeed him .some of her food soon it was time for the big race when her dad l get she just kept feeding him one day when she came back from school the shed was open so ran over and only saw four pups she couldn't find her dog any where .THEN she saw big tracks she decided that a wo
My daughter loved this book. She wants to continue to read the story.
