Review

Romanians have an engrained wisdom, an ancestral quality to inspire, create, and guide others. The Little Book of Romanian Wisdom proves once again their perception, knowledge, judgements, and passions. Nicely crafted, the book is the ultimate guide for all the ones interested in discovering themselves while learning about this mystical country: Romania. --Aura Imbarus, author of the Pulitzer Prize nominated book Out of the Transylvanian NightWisdom seems to find us in the exact moment in which our soul is in a quest for answers or for something to resonate with. The whole magic of wisdom: it knows no boundaries of language, religion or political color. Wisdom is what stays behind and crystallizes inside us when experience, genius, suffering, age or all of the above wash away the shores of our lives. That’s why I am so proud that two wonderful people like Diana and Matthew came up with the idea of making the secret gems of Romanian wisdom known to the entire world, as they often go unseen or neglected. They’re food for thought as well as for the soul, because genuine emotions are what our souls truly feast on... --Diana-Florina Cosmin, Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Life, RomaniaThis little jewel of Romanian Wisdom is a huge gift of inspiration from two talented people and a small nation. Who knew that Romania concealed such wisdom? Once you start reading it, you won’t be able to put it down. Don’t pass this treasure by. --- Dr. Phil Nuernberger, host of the This Amazing Life radio show; author of The Warrior Sage; President of Strategic Intelligence SkillsEach quote in The Little Book of Romanian Wisdom should be offered as a toast to the brilliance and spirit of the Romanian people... much as one would do with a shot of Å£uica [Romania’s home-brewed national liquor], one great “spirit” acknowledging the other. Noroc! --Robert Friedman, M.D., co-author of The Divine Code of Da Vinci, Fibonacci, Einstein and YOU and The Golden Ratio Lifestyle DietAs long as I can remember, I have collected quotes that touched me. Perhaps they were funny, profound, puzzling, or beautiful. The Little Book of Romanian Wisdom is full of inspiring quotes and stories that I can add to my collection, and use in my work and life. --Gurumarka Khalsa, yogi, spiritual guide and author, Total FitnessThe Little Book of Romanian Wisdom is a precious gem for anyone wishing to cultivate the deep-seated know;edge of an ancient culture. We can all learn, grow and evolve through the soulful guidance and peaceful words of this beautifully crafted work. This is a book not just for Romanians but for the world to read and live by.-- Dr. Carmen Harra, bestselling author of Everyday Karma and Wholeliness

I have just read the first edition of the newly-published book, The Little Book of Romanian Wisdom , by Diana Doroftei (of Bârlad, Romania) and Matthew Cross (of Connecticut). It is a beautiful work, and I think that if you are a very good boy or girl, and if you spend the holiday at "Hotel New Hampshire," as we call our home, you just might find a copy if it under the tree on Christmas. The world can always use wise sayings; aphorisms never go out of style. As I learned during my Fulbright year in Cluj-Napoca, a lovely city in northwestern Transylvania that dates back to the Second Century Roman occupation, Romania's long-suffering yet smart, productive people have a whole lot of wisdom to share. Who cannot love a saying such as, "Ceea ce viata te invata este mai important decat ceea ce te invata scoala." (Emy, rrom) All the entries in the book appear in both Romanian and English... but I'll let you go ahead and translate that gem, some version of which our fathers laid on us all, back when we were in high school. The "Little Book of Romanian Wisdom" goes further. It displays much of the heritage and culture of this diverse land of contrasts, and introduces Romanians who have played important roles in the world without making a point of their birthplace. For instance, I never would have guessed that Johnny Weissmuller (Olympic swimming champion and the original Tarzan of cinema) and Edward G. Robinson were both Romanian-born.The book closes with an appendix which contains a brief history of Romania, a collection of essential Romanian words spelled phonetically for English speakers (Yes, "Da"; No, "Nu"; Cheers! "Nor-Oak!", etc.), a map placing Romania in its location in Europe, reference sites on the Web, a bibliography, and more. The book is useful. One who has visited Romania learns much from this book, even as it rekindles fond memories. One unfamiliar with that land of rare beauty and legend will learn still more. I have already e-mailed a product link to the Director of the Fulbright Commission of Romania in Bucharest, suggesting he provide a copy to all the new arrivals at their Fulbright orientations in January, and next fall. I could hardly pay the book a higher compliment than that.

"The Little Book of Romanian Wisdom" is a wonderful quote book focusing on the greatest treasure Romania has to offer: the successes of its people. There are a lot of books about Romania's great landscapes, castles, monasteries but this is the first book I've read that brings attention to some of the great artists, gymnasts, writers, historians and Nobel prize winners of Romania's past and current days.I believe it is a great introduction to the culture and values of the Romanian people. Being born and raised in Romania I was pleasantly surprised by the in depth research the authors have done to include defining values and characteristics of the Romanian people. This book has definitely brought me closer to my culture and for that I'm very thankful to both Diana Doroftei and Matthew Cross.

What a terrific book full of Romanian wisdom about art, family, health and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Absolutely love the format of this book. In a clear and concise manner, I was able to learn about Romanian history, culture, humor and values. Definitely recommend it

We enjoyed the book very much and it was also interesting to see the well of wisdom of the romaniian people. For the people of Romania and admirers of our rich culture is a real gem. Highly recommend . It is a plus that it is in Romanian and English.Iolanda and Ron

I love this book. My friend is Romanian and I wanted to know more about their culture. You will find a lot of things about them:)

This is a stupid, stupid book. Well, not the book in itself, but the content. There are pearls of wisdom like " In a family the most important thing is to get along" or "Drinking a large glass of water with lemon in the morning restores body and soul", which, by the way, in the Romanian version makes no sense at all.. It looks sometimes like the authors have translated to Romanian from who knows what language, and very poorly at that. The idea of the book is great, but I am sure that they could have done a better job of gathering real pearls of wisdom, because if that is what passes for contemporary wisdom in Romania, no wonder we are in trouble...

Useless. The Wikipedia article on Romania was more interesting and insightful. Save your money.
