Adriana Trigiana has done it again! An amazing story about family, love, the search for meaning and self worth. I never finish one of her stories without wishing it could go on and on. I will probably re-read it three or four times because I will miss Nicky, Mrs. Money, Calla and the Palazzini family. It makes me want to go back to Italy and find my way to Rosetta Villaforte. The Shakespeare theme running throughout is amazing! Bravo, Adriana!

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't "get" this book. The events seemed improbable, to say the least; the protagonist was a selfish whiner; the end was sadly predictable. I do not believe in doing synopses as "reviews" so I won't go into details, except to say I was very disappointed - as I was, incidentally, by The Supreme Macaroni Company. That's two strikes against a previously favorite author. (I gave two stars only because the writing itself is beautiful as usual).

Adriana Trigiani is one of my favorite authors and I wait anxiously for each new book she publishes. Kiss Carlo was another story about love, Italian style, in South Philly with all of the elements of Italian family life, food, feuds, love, babies, ritual, death and reconciliation. The characters were well developed and likable though Nick's posing as the ambassador was rather silly and unbelievable, he was still a strong character who was searching for himself. His self realization at the end about his life as an orphan being raised by his aunt and uncle was very real and very touching. I loved the inclusion into the story of Ms. Mooney, an African American woman and her friends and family. Mrs. Mooney's reality as a woman of color in the 1950s was an important element in the story especially since the Italians for whom she worked had been ostracized when they first arrived in this country earlier in the same century. This is a book about growth, change and love and is well worth the read.

I have so much live for Adriana Trigiani but this book was disappointing for me. I understand the story she was trying to tell. But for me, it was difficult to get started reading. I bet I started 5 or 6 times only to become disinterested and stop. She has the characters come to life changing conclusions out of the blue. For example, Hortense is throughout the book and it isn't mentioned or alluded to that she thought of Nicky as a son. I felt like she kept all of Nicky's family at arm's length. Then kapow, there is back story the she used to take care if him, that his mother asked her to watch out for him. All of a sudden she's Nicky's 3rd mother and he is thanking her at his wedding reception. She tried to tell the story with too many characters and as a result then had to write a lot of back stories to explain everything.I didn't love it and I really wanted to.

Adriana Trigiani never disappoints and Kiss Carlo is no exception. The characters come alive as if they were your own family or friends. When I got near the end of this book I was sad because I didn't want to leave. The time period is familiar to me and the language and attitudes of that era are depicted in this novel very naturally and accurately. The story line will draw you into the Palazzini family. like one of its own. Nicky Castone will become your beloved nephew or closest friend or charismatic lover. You'll be his ardent cheerleader as he makes his journey to maturity. He'll make you laugh and he'll make you cry. Enjoy!

I'm a big fan of Trigiani books, and, growing up in South Philly, I couldn't wait to read the book. However, I was somewhat disappointed by the style of writing—a lot of "telling" rather than showing. The characters were somewhat boring and I couldn't really embrace them as I've done with so many of Trigiani's other books.

This wonderful and heartwarming novel (Kiss Carlo: a Novel by Adriana Trigiani) is my favorite book of her numerous volumes I have read lately. This story is about an Italian family in America just after World War 11 (1949) and their happiness and joy for the American Italian men and women who helped win the war fighting with our allies to save democracy. This fantastic novel is all about Italian American values, religion, work, freedom and the role of government. I never give away too much information when reviewing a novel because I like to let the reader discover the joys within the pages of a good novel. If you are a fan of this author this is a book you should check out. I found it to be a delightful read even though my reading interests are usually in the more violent action orientated novels.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Training Alone in Combatives and Self-Defense)

I never miss an Adriana Trigiani book. When I find a new one is coming out, I straight away put my money down to hold a copy. She's a wonderful story teller. I love the Italian influence in her family stories. Such chaos yet order...such heart felt arguing and discord, yet enduring love to see the family through. There are things to admire and yet be uncertain about in every character, which makes them real and believable. I so enjoyed the building up of the love story in this book Kiss Carlo. You stand outside of it as a reader, noticing what the players miss and hoping they find their way. The story leads us through complicated scenarios with many characters and brings it all to a fabulously satisfying conclusion. Brave Adriana, you did it again. Loved it and look forward to many more. See Gee
