The writing of this book was so well put together that the reader did feel as though he or she was able to connect with the ancient Church Fathers. From a personal perspective, as one who has been skeptical of anything formal, liturgical or seemingly legalistic, reading this book has been a process of self-examination. The areas of liturgy and sacrament that seemed so foreign, now seemed achingly close, as if a very important part of my own personal journey in Christ were somehow missing. In view of this, it is fair then to say that Christopher Hall did accomplish, at least for this one reader, his goal that "the landscape of the fathers' thoughts and practices concerning the sacraments, prayer and spiritual discipline looks more familiar" to his readers and perhaps inviting some for an extended visit.

MUST HAVE BOOK!!! OMG! An excellent book! It proved to be very helpful in my M.Div. class and my research on Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

This is a great book for understanding and connecting with the ancient church in worship. The early church fathers and monastics have so much to teach us about drawing close to God. Hall is a good guide. I also recommend Christopher Hall's other two books on studying scripture and studying theology with the church fathers.

This book is the latest offering from Dr. Christopher Hall, and the third in what will be a series of four books. The first two are Reading Scripture With the Church Fathers, and Learning Theology With the Church Fathers. Dr. Hall is a solid academic who writes well. This book provides exceptional insight into the worship, personal prayer, and thinking of the great early leaders of the Christian Church. I hope Dr. Hall's fourth book in this series arrives soon!

This edition says on the cover that there are free study resources with textbook purchase, but it is MISLEADING. Our instructor wants us to have the book with the ACCESS code, which this does NOT have. Again, this book does NOT have the online videos and access instructors are recommending despite its cover. I would have just used my school library's copy if I had known.

NO CODE!! I can't believe I bought a brand new book, which doesn't have the CODE!!!!! I read others' feedback. Looks like I'm not the only one. Very disappointed. Hope someone can explain this.

Such a great purchase. I also have the hard copy of the book, but it gets a little hard to carry around with all my other nursing school supplies. Love that I can highlight, make study guides etc. plus it makes studying with a busy toddler running around much easier! Highly recommend the e-version!

disappointed that if you want the access to the online portion you have purchase that also for another 45 dollars. It is not clear that it is not included with this book. Very disappointed!!!Had I known I would have just spent the 45 dollars and used the online book with the extra online information.

This textbook is not easy to study systematically. Poor grammar and organization in my opinion. I would not buy this textbook if it was not required for class.

Pages in the middle were damaged, almost as if they were about to get cut or in the processing part the pages were cut wrong. All in all good book.

Overall, the text contains a lot of good information, but is not indexed well. When attempting to reference something previously read, it is not always found in the index, making it difficult to quick reference. I found this very disappointing about this book.

This version is too busy and the bold text is very small and in light pink which doesn't even stand out. Don't waste your money on the 8th edition...buy the 7th edition. The 7th edition has a better layout, is easier to read and follow.

Dan is clearly a hard working, intelligent person, doing his best to live life in the moment, and treating the world with respect. This book is highly recommended.

Who can resist Beatrix Potter with her soft water color illustrations and adventurous but life-lesson stories? This book appears to be about a 10 minute read, but may take longer if your little one wants to study the delightful illustrations. It measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" so it is perfect for little hands to hold, or to stuff in your purse. It is a hard-covered book. I am excited to give this book along with Gund's stuffed Benjamin Bunny to my 1 year old grand daughter!

Another Beatrice Potter book that is so cute for a little three year old. Good old classic story by a great author

My son thoroughly enjoys this series. "The Tale of Benjamin Bunny" is a particularly good story to read after the child becomes familiar with "The Tale of Peter Rabbit," which sets up this story of Benjamin Bunny and Peter Rabbit's visit to Mr. McGreggor's garden. The story itself is told in the same charming prose, using appropriate words that many of today's readers tend to avoid because they appear "too difficult." The series published by Frederick Warne, in particular, had the vision to size the book perfectly for small hands, allowing even the youngest "readers" to enjoy the story, whether it is read, or whether one studies the many delightful, detailed images that fit the text so well. I highly recommend this book, as well as the rest of the Beatrix Potter series published by Frederick Warne.
